Drugstore Haul: Hair + Makeup




     Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well. These past two weekends, I went to Target to do some shopping, and I thought I'd share some of what I bought with you guys.

     I just bought six items the first time; three hair-related and three makeup-related.

Hair-Related Items


Conair Styling Clips

     This was actually one of the last things I picked up, just because I walked through the hair tools aisle by chance. I've been looking for some of these styling clips so I could section off my hair or pin my curls much smoother and quicker whenever I use my hot tools. Also, Lou Teasdale used similar clips when she did her hair for Jay's wedding.

      Of course, I had to buy more bobby pins, since it's impossible for me to not loose mine. I was about to walk away with buying a pack of 60 for $3, and I'm so very happy that I saw these before I left the aisle. Such a bargain, and it comes with a small tear-drop shaped bobby pin opener that you can use to open your bobby pins instead of using your teeth (which I'm guilty of doing).

Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Curl Scrunching Gel

     One of the main reasons that I went to the drugstore was because I wanted a product to use in my curls that will keep them from frizzing up if I decided to wear my crazy locks down one day, and this product claims to do so. Also, it smells delicious!

Ardell Lash Grip Adhesive

      The sets of e.l.f. falsies that I bought came with lash glue, but it was horrible quality. After one use, despite the fact that I twisted the cap on correctly and made sure it was shut tight, the glue dried up and got tacky, making it impossible to use, which was disappointing since I absolutely adore e.l.f. products.. I've heard a large amount of people in the beauty community rave about Ardell products, so I decided to pick up some of their glue and see how it works.

      The fact that I did not have a foundation in my current shade, and that I was dying of curiosity about this new line of foundations led me to purchase this (surprisingly affordable) foundation. Expect a future blog post on this foundation.

L'Oreal Paris Miss Manga Mascara in Darkest Black

     This product was greatly raved about by one of my favorite youtubers Em, so I decided to purchase it. Once I experiment a bit more with it, I'll do a blog post on in, including pictures and side-by-side comparisons to other mascaras that I own.


     The second trip to Target, I got a few more things.

Maybelline 'Fit Me' Matte + Poreless foundation in shade 228 Soft Tan

     Please, take my advice. If a foundation says 'for normal to oily' or 'for normal to dry', they do that for a reason. Please get the foundation that corresponds to your skin type. I did not do this, so I had to exchange the first foundation shown above for this one, since I had normal to oily skin. A review on this foundation and the 'Fit Me' Dewy + Smooth foundation will be up shortly.

Olay Clear Skin {1-2-3!} Acne Solution System

      I have tried this once, and I saw immediate results with the moisturizer and results the next morning with the acne wash and spot treatment. I love this so much already and I highly recommend the {Swirled Mattifier!} to people that have redness and oily skin.

e.l.f. Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick in Sangria Starters

     It was cheap and a pretty color, what more can I ask for? I tried it on once I got home, and let me tell you, I was skeptical, because I didn't want another lip gloss, but let me tell you now, it was not glossy. It looked more like a lip stain, and it lasted multiple hours after I applied. I had more of a satin/natural finish, and you could totally layer it up to get the desired color pay off.

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser
20 ml .67 fl oz
$6.99 + tax
     If you guys watch my videos, then you guys know that my go-to primer is the Smashbox Pore minimizing Photo Finish primer, but before I got that one for my birthday, I used this one. Once I got the high end primer, I started using that one just where I had the biggest pores, and then I used the Baby Skin primer all over the rest of my face. I love it, because if I wanted to, I could just apply it to my face and it'll mattify my t-zone for the rest of the day. It's a great product to wear on its own, and it really helps your makeup last throughout the whole day.

CONTOUR FOR BEGINNERS FT. HOW I CONTOUR

     Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well. I recently posted a video including some tips on contouring, and a demo on how I contour my face. If you haven't watched it yet, you should go do that!

One: Your Face Is A Special Snowflake

     You can't watch someone's video and suddenly expect to contour your face perfectly using their exact steps. Like I stated in my video, everyone has a different face. I have a much more square-shape face, while you can have a more of a rounded face, or a subtle heart-shaped face. How you contour just depends on your face. Do not be afraid of experimenting with different patters and different contrast with the products.

(How to figure out your face shape)
     Generally, your face can be classified into five shape categories shown above. You can easily find tutorials on how to contour your specific face shape on Youtube or beauty blogs. The top image was taken from a Smashbox Cosmetics tutorial on how to classify your face shape.

     You must have patience. Just like with any other makeup trick, you must keep calm, and keep trying; don't give up after a few failed trials.

     Something else that I learned is to feel your face. Press your fingers into the crevices of your bone structure to grow a better knowledge of where to put the dark colors and where to put the highlight.


Two: Disregard ' One For All'

     Next thing to take in confederation when you start to contour, is what you use. The most popular products to use to contour are cream and powder palettes, which you can find in an array of brands and prices. I like using foundations, just because I can skip the step of applying a full layer of foundation first.

     It's really all up to your preference. Like I stated before (and like I will continue to state) you must experiment and be willing to make mistakes. You might find that you like using powders more than you like creams, or you like a little more liquid-y, or something a bit stiffer. You just need to experiment.

     Also, take the type of skin you fave into consideration. If you have drier skin, maybe you should opt for something that gives you a dewier finish, and if you have oily skin, opt for a powder that will matte-ify your skin.

Three: Brushes

     The brushes you use will make a big difference on how your contour will turn out, and they also will vary on what product you use.

     If you are going to use a cream or liquid contour product, gravitate towards synthetic haired brushes. Synthetic hair if fake hair, so it won't absorb any of your product, and therefore you will get a better pay off of product. If you want to use powders, feel free to use natural hair brushes.


Three: Placement

     The most important part; where you place the product. One slip of your product can make you go from Kim Kardashian to last year's halloween decorations. It takes lots of practice to perfect how to control your hand when applying all the shades. You can look up face charts on the internet if you need help deciding where to place your highlight, bronzer, blush or contour.

TREND ONE: BUNS



This past year, buns were on the rage. Spice them up my multiplying or dividing them, adding glitter, or even tying them off with some kid bobbles to add a Clueless vibe. Buns will be the white t-shirt of hairstyles.

Everything 90's came back this past year- plaid, smudged eyeliner, and textured hair.The internet blew up with so many posts after videos after pictorials on how to get this un-polished look, that you can probably find a different way to get this hair for every day of the week.


TREND THREE: PONIES




Ponies have been a classic from the beginning of time, but now everyone is adding their own twists (literally) to them; especially on the runway. Now they're anew and fresh and everyone is falling in love with them all over again.


TREND FOUR: BRAIDS



Remember when your mom used to sit you down and fix your hair into a basic three-strand plait? Yeah, apparently that's not the only way to braid hair. Freshen up your elementary hair and search up different tutorials on all types of braids.


TREND FIVE: NATURAL TEXTURE



If all of these were too much work for you, just keep it natural. Leave your hair in buns for the night and unravel them in the morning to reveal beautiful natural waves, or if you're blessed with non-frizzy hair, just spray some dry shampoo in your roots and rock it.
